Jane's Carousel
The D.U.M.B.O. Arts Festival was such a splendid event. Walking on cobblestone streets and eating chocolate-flavored ice cream from the big ice cream truck is a little kid's dream come-true. In Brooklyn, where ever you go, there was always something surprising. When I took the path down to Water Street, I spotted this old century carousel on my way to Brooklyn Bridge Park. It was so exciting to view the carousel in person. Once the carousel was restored after two decades and looking at it up-close, you'll see the intricate details of each horse. I was smiling in my head. I can remember the thrill of riding a beautiful carousel with all of its dancing horses. You could hear the music play as these horses prance around the rotating carousel. The scene is like a fairytale.
History: The carousel was purchased in the 1980s by David and Jane Walentas at an auction in Youngstown, Ohio. It took two decades for the carousel to be fully restored.
Jane's Carousel is displayed only for viewing inside an open gallery space at 56 Water Street, Brooklyn, NY . This day, the carousel has been the talk of the town. Jane's Carousel is now the centerpiece of Brooklyn.
Update: Jane's Carousel is reported to be moving to a new location in Brooklyn Bridge Park. It is scheduled to be open to the public for rides by December 2010.
